UASC & Separated Young People Placements
Ofsted Registered Supported Accommodation for Young People Aged 16–18

Finding the right placement for an unaccompanied asylum-seeking child (UASC) or separated young person is about much more than finding accommodation. It means finding an environment where they can feel safe, begin to settle into life in the UK and develop the confidence and practical skills needed for adulthood.
Oasis Care UK Group works with local authorities to discuss placements for Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) and Separated Young People aged 16–18 within our Ofsted-registered supported accommodation service.
Every referral is considered individually to ensure we can provide the right environment, support and stability for the young person.
We Regularly Discuss Referrals Involving
Our Referrals Team welcomes conversations about young people who may require supported accommodation following arrival in the UK or who are preparing for greater independence.
Referrals may include young people who:
-
Have recently arrived in the UK without a parent or legal guardian.
-
Require an initial supported accommodation placement.
-
Are moving from emergency or short-term accommodation.
-
Need support while immigration or asylum matters are ongoing.
-
Would benefit from support to access education, healthcare and community services.
-
Require support to develop independence and practical life skills.
-
May have experienced separation, displacement or other significant life events.
Every referral is assessed individually to determine whether Oasis is the right provider.

Understanding the Referral
Every unaccompanied or separated young person arrives with their own experiences, strengths and support needs. Alongside the practical arrangements of the placement, we take time to understand what each young person will need to feel safe, settle into their new environment and begin building a positive future.
During the referral process, we'll want to understand:
-
The young person's immigration and legal status
-
Current safeguarding concerns and any known risks
-
Language, interpreter and communication requirements
-
Education, training or ESOL arrangements
-
Physical and emotional wellbeing
-
Cultural, religious and dietary needs
-
Independent living skills and day-to-day support needs
-
Family contact and significant relationships
-
Professionals currently involved in the young person's care
-
The outcomes the placing authority is working towards
Understanding the individual helps us assess whether Oasis can provide the right environment, support and opportunities to help them settle and progress.
Moving to a new country, community and home can be an overwhelming experience.
Our focus is on helping young people build routines, understand the support available to them and gradually develop confidence in everyday life.
Support may include:
-
accessing education and training
-
registering with healthcare services
-
learning to travel independently
-
developing budgeting and cooking skills
-
understanding local communities and services
-
building confidence with everyday responsibilities
-
preparing for adulthood and greater independence
Every young person progresses at their own pace, with support tailored to their individual needs and goals.
Helping Young People Settle

Our Approach

No two young people arrive with the same experiences, strengths or aspirations.
We recognise that while some young people may need practical support to understand unfamiliar systems and develop independent living skills, others may require additional reassurance as they begin building a life in a new community.
Rather than making assumptions based on a young person's background, we focus on understanding the individual, recognising their strengths and providing support that promotes safety, confidence and long-term independence.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Oasis support emergency UASC referrals?
Where capacity allows, we are happy to discuss urgent and emergency referrals. We understand that some young people require placements at short notice, and we aim to provide an honest assessment of suitability based on the information available at the time.
What information is helpful when discussing a UASC placement?
The more information we have, the better we can assess suitability. This may include the young person's current circumstances, education arrangements, language needs, known vulnerabilities, independence skills, safeguarding information and the outcomes you're hoping the placement will achieve.
Can Oasis support young people with additional needs alongside their UASC status?
Yes. We recognise that some unaccompanied and separated young people may also have mental health needs, neurodiversity, trauma-related needs or additional vulnerabilities. Every referral is assessed individually to understand the young person's strengths, support needs and placement objectives.
How quickly can you advise whether Oasis may be suitable?
Once we've received the referral information, our Referrals Team will aim to review it within 24–48 hours. If we need any additional information, we'll let you know as quickly as possible. If we don't believe Oasis is the right provider, we'll explain our decision early to help support timely placement planning.
