Learning Disability Placements
Residential Care for Adults & Supported Accommodation for Young People

Finding the right placement for someone with a learning disability is about more than finding a vacancy. It's about understanding the individual, their strengths, support needs and aspirations, and identifying the environment where they can thrive.
Oasis Care UK Group works with local authorities, NHS services and other professionals to discuss learning disability placements across our services. Depending on the person's age, assessed needs and level of support required, this may include residential care for adults or supported accommodation for young people aged 16–18.
Every referral is considered individually to ensure Oasis is the right provider for the person's needs.
We Regularly Discuss Referrals Involving
Our Referrals Team welcomes conversations about people with learning disabilities who may benefit from a structured, supportive environment.
Referrals may include:
-
Adults requiring residential care.
-
Young people aged 16–18 requiring supported accommodation.
-
Individuals preparing for greater independence.
-
People who would benefit from support with daily living skills.
-
Individuals with co-existing autism, ADHD or mental health needs.
-
People who have experienced placement instability or require a more suitable environment.
-
Individuals who would benefit from consistent routines, personalised support and positive outcomes.
Every referral is assessed individually to determine whether Oasis can provide the right support.

Our Referral Approach
The most appropriate placement depends on the person's age, assessed needs and the level of support they require.
Oasis currently provides:
-
Residential Care for adults with learning disabilities who require a higher level of day-to-day support.
-
Supported Accommodation for young people aged 16–18 who are developing independence while receiving tailored support.
During the referral process, we'll work with professionals to understand:
-
The person's strengths, interests and aspirations
-
Their communication and support needs
-
Current risks and existing support arrangements
-
Previous placements and key learning
-
Daily living skills and level of independence
-
Longer-term goals and desired outcomes
Understanding the individual helps us determine whether Oasis is the right provider and, if so, which service would be most appropriate.
Every referral tells part of the story, but the most valuable conversations often go beyond the paperwork.
We welcome discussions with commissioners, social workers, families and health professionals to build a clearer picture of the individual, what matters to them, what has been successful previously and where additional support may be needed.
These conversations help us determine not only whether Oasis is the right provider, but also whether we can offer an environment where the person has the opportunity to feel settled, develop confidence and make meaningful progress.
Understanding the Person Behind the Referral
Understanding Our Learning Disability Support
Support looks different for every individual, but outcomes often include developing greater confidence with everyday living, building routines, managing appointments, learning practical life skills, strengthening community connections and, where appropriate, preparing for greater independence.
Every person has different strengths, preferences and ambitions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the right service for this referral?
Learning disability alone doesn't determine whether Oasis is the right provider. We'll consider the person's age, level of independence, assessed needs, risks, communication preferences and desired outcomes before advising whether one of our services may be appropriate.
What information is helpful when discussing a learning disability placement?
The more information we have, the better we can assess suitability. This may include recent assessments, current support needs, communication preferences, risks, previous placements, behavioural support plans and the outcomes you're hoping to achieve.
What if the person also has autism or mental health needs?
Many referrals involve more than one area of need. We'll look at the individual's overall presentation rather than a single diagnosis to determine whether Oasis can provide the right environment and support.
How quickly can you advise whether Oasis may be suitable?
Once we've received the referral information, our Referrals Team will aim to review it within 24–48 hours. If we need any additional information, we'll let you know as quickly as possible. If we don't believe Oasis is the right provider, we'll explain our decision early to help support timely placement planning.
